Once again our client, managing director of a highly tradition-minded family enterprise in their 4th generation, tried to tell her family about her new, innovative business idea at their regular Sunday lunch. Review: Already in her cradle it was clear what kind of profession our client should take. Being the firstborn she was, from early age on, involved in the traditional family business, went through the “classic” type of education, was trained in all of the company´s working-areas and completed several practical internships abroad. External Analysis: “Once you run this company you will have full responsibility and we expect you to represent and keep up our name´s excellent reputation!”, was her parents incessant reminder. All those high expectations of her role as well as dutifully living up to them had been the most determining factors in our client´s life. Internal Analysis: Only by analyzing her own values another aspect of her personality emerges: a sensitive and creative person with an excellent gift for observation and imagination. Core Competencies: Long-term and unconventional thinking, networking, and product innovation in cooperation with international experts are her strengths. “I am fully committed to our family tradition, but today we must break new ground to keep up with our markets!” Still, shying away from any possible conflict with her family, she does not want to “misuse” her power position as managing director.
